The next generation of Synopsis cookers
The Synopsis box cooker T16 is smaller, lighter and more efficient at high temperatures than its predecessor model REM5. At the same time, fabrication, handling and use have been simplified.
Numerous versions have been simulated, then tested in comparison to find optimal solutions (choice of cooking pot, lids, effect of absorber deformation on efficiency). Optimisation of the cooker geometry as well as simplification of production process are under way. The field test experiences in South Africa were taken into account in these developments. With E. Biermann, N. McCabe, Prof. W. Diem, Fachhochschule Giessen-Friedberg, H.P. Metzner, R. Palmer and G. Schröder.

Comparative testing of different versions of the T16 cooker.
Other developments
Comparison of reflection coefficients of different reflective surfaces.
Monitoring of local temperatures in different critical points of the cooker.
Study of a controlled condensation flow on glazing, as function of inclination and different surface treatments of the glazing.

Comparative test of three cookers: four heat-up cycles (pot content 2,5 l water) in one day.

Comparative test of five cookers: the fastest ones take 40 minutes to heat 2,5 l. water from 40°C to 97°C. Test method according to the ECSCR.
A comparative test of different sizes of the parabolic cooker model SK (diameter 50, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140 cm) has been carried out. The results show an important influence of the pot size on the efficiency of the smallest models.
